It was a normal day except that my morning was a bit colder. I having no plans of going out as usual went with a blank mind to my studio.
I always select a reference photo ahead of time for my paintings. But today I didn’t have anything preplanned. I was scanning my phone gallery and found a photo that was sent by my friend on my request.
After being satisfied with my sketch, I moved on with the colour palette selection. I wanted a subtle granulation for the skies so I used a mix of ultramarine blue and burnt sienna. There’s a magic in this combination and the way it works on paper.. I just love it.
As the day was about to end, I had a certain gush of anxiety running through my head all of the sudden. I tried to calm down, did meditation for a few minutes but it didn’t work. I decided that I’ve to do loose florals again to relieve my stress.
I fixed two phones at two different angles and started with a blank mind, paper, a few colours and a brush – without a reference photo
After deciding the direction of light source for the roses, I did a very loose layer and layered it further after the previous layer had dried
I’m quite happy with the outcome. Here’s how it looks.
Here’s the video. I have edited it to include only the important sections.
